What are the precautions for the storage and transportation of hot rolled bars?

Publish Time: 2025-04-21
The storage and transportation of hot rolled bars are crucial to ensure their quality, performance and subsequent use effects. The following is a detailed introduction to the relevant precautions from the two aspects of storage and transportation.

In terms of storage, the first thing to do is to choose a suitable site. A clean and well-drained place should be selected, away from factories and mines that produce harmful gases or dust, to prevent hot rolled bars from being contaminated and corroded. Different varieties of hot rolled bars should be stacked separately to avoid confusion and mutual corrosion. For large hot rolled bars, they can be stacked in the open air, but there must be wooden pads or stone strips underneath, and the stack surface should be slightly tilted to facilitate drainage, and pay attention to the straight placement of the material to prevent bending and deformation. Small and medium-sized hot rolled bars can be stored in a well-ventilated material shed, but they must be covered with tarpaulins and padded below. Small hot rolled bars, thin-walled tubes, etc. should be stored in the warehouse. The warehouse requires ventilation on sunny days and closed on rainy days to prevent moisture and maintain a suitable storage environment.

When stacking, the principle of stable stacking and ensuring safety should be followed, and stacking should be carried out according to variety and specification. The bottom of the stack should be raised, solid and flat to prevent the material from getting damp or deforming. The same kind of materials should be stacked separately according to the order of storage, so as to implement the principle of first-in-first-out. The stacking height should be reasonably controlled according to the operation mode, not more than 1.2m for manual operation, not more than 1.5m for mechanical operation, and not more than 2.5m for stack width. There should be a certain passage between the stacks. The inspection passage is generally 0.5m, and the access passage depends on the size of the material and the transportation machinery, generally 1.5-2.0m.

In terms of transportation, it is necessary to choose a suitable vehicle. According to the size and weight of the hot rolled bars, flatbed trucks or low flatbed trucks are ideal for transportation. For longer or wider steel, special vehicles may be required. The choice of loading method has a great impact on stability and safety. It should be ensured that the hot rolled bars are placed stably and firmly fixed on the vehicle. For larger steel, professional fixing equipment such as steel cables or clamps can be used. During the loading process, care should be taken to avoid friction and collision between steels to prevent their surface damage or deformation.

Before transportation, you should fully understand the transportation route, including road conditions, traffic flow, height restrictions of bridges and tunnels, etc., choose a suitable route and avoid peak hours and congested roads as much as possible. During transportation, keep the speed stable, avoid sudden braking or sharp turns, and prevent the hot rolled bars from sliding or overturning on the vehicle. At the same time, you should be equipped with professional drivers who have rich driving experience and good adaptability, understand the nature and transportation requirements of hot rolled bars, and ensure the safety of the transportation process.
